Munich: Boschetsrieder Strasse becomes bicycle and pedestrian friendly. – Munich

Boschetsrieder Strasse is being remodeled. This was decided by the city council’s mobility committee on Wednesday. The 1.3 km long traffic axis is part of the signposted main cycle route network between Obersendling and Thalkirchen as well as part of the outer cycle ring. In the future, footpaths and cycle paths along the road will be significantly widened, which should primarily increase safety on the way to the local schools and day-care centers.

In the course of the redesign, around 90 new bicycle parking spaces will also be created. The number of car parking spaces, on the other hand, will be reduced from 269 to 109.

According to the mobility department, no noticeable changes are to be expected for the flowing car traffic. The lanes will be retained, only at the intersection with Hofmannstrasse will there be a right-hand lane, a straight-ahead lane and a left-turn lane in the westerly direction, and a straight-right lane and a left-turn lane in the easterly direction. At the intersections with Geretsrieder Strasse and Tölzer Strasse, the roadway will be widened on both sides to create parking spaces for turning lanes.

The CSU voted against the conversion, which is expected to cost between 15 and almost 18 million euros. City Councilor Veronika Mirlach criticized the fact that only one online information round had taken place beforehand, but no real citizen participation. The mobility department sees it differently: significantly more people took part in the online event than usual.
