Munich: bike lanes required on the Reichenbach Bridge – Munich

Especially at the popular kiosk on the inner city side, but also on the rest of the Reichenbach Bridge, things get really busy in summer: cyclists and pedestrians crowd the sidewalks, while local residents believe that car traffic has by no means increased to the same extent.

The District Committee (BA) Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt would like to try a pop-up bike lane this summer, i.e. a temporary bike lane that would eliminate one car lane in each direction. The entire side area would be available to pedestrians for this purpose. The local politicians see hardly any restrictions on car traffic, since the Fraunhoferstrasse and Ohlmüllerstrasse are narrower than the bridge anyway. Only the east-side crossing for cyclists would have to be made safer.

The BA considers the temporary rededication to be necessary not only in terms of the traffic turnaround, but also to allow pedestrians on the bridge the necessary distance from each other in the ongoing pandemic. The city council has the last word on the motion of the left-wing parliamentary group, which was unanimously accepted in the BA.
