Munich: Baritone saxophonist Céline Bonacina in the Unterfahrt – Munich

Céline Bonacina is also known to many in this country. Not only because the Frenchwoman was with the Munich act label for several years, but also because her performances are unmistakable. Because this petite woman plays the mighty baritone saxophone with more virtuosity than few. But her music also stands out stylistically, as Bonacina lived on La Reunion for seven years after studying classical music and training in the Parisian big bands.

The usual European-African rhythm and form mix shapes their music to this day. On her new album “Jump”, which she now has in the Underpass presents, it goes back to her youth: it is an idiosyncratic reminiscence of the 1980s fusion jazz of the Brecker Brothers or the Yellowjackets. Celebrates in the American all-star quartet with Rachel Eckroth on piano, Chris Jennings on bass and John Hadfield on drums.
