Munich band of the week: Mirabelle Rose – Munich

“I’ve lost sight of the days, I’ve lost count of the weeks” – a mystical, soft voice begins, alien sounds in the background. The music video for this song features a woman dressed in white with a hood covering her face. Nothing around them but rocks and water and a huge moon on the horizon. The wind blows through Mira-Belle Rose Bryld’s hair. She calls herself an artist Mirabelle Rose and “Willow’s Lullaby” is the first song on her new EP.

Born into a family of musicians, she didn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps for a long time, but wanted to become an actress – to do her own thing, so to speak. But she discovered her love of singing early on and so she took her mother, Alice Rose, with her to concerts as a second singer. And her mother also showed her the magic of stories. “I’m a very dreamy person. I try to be more in the now, but often I’m somewhere in space,” she says. Especially when performing live, she likes to captivate the audience with her stories.

For her new single “Willow’s Lullaby” she was inspired by the plot of a film. After seeing “High Life” at the cinema, she went home in silence and sat on the caoch without turning on the light. The demo version of the song was created that same evening. She describes her music as “moody” and “dreamy” – something between indie pop and electro pop. What is striking is the epic, wide sound that she creates through soft, flowing beats and her delicate but determined voice. The Nordic artists “Aurora” and “Björk” are role models for their music.

They also connect Mira-Bell’s roots with these musicians. Born in Denmark, she has lived in quite a few places in the 26 years of her life. She has lived in Munich since 2019 and is studying feature film directing at the HFF. In the film she hopes to combine her passion for music and acting. Because music always has a strong visual component in her head. She also used pictures to explain to musicians and producers what she imagines as “Willow’s Lullaby”. She co-directed the accompanying music video with a friend and also did the video editing.

Her self-confidence came from the street music. At the age of 16 she was invited for the first time to play with a guitarist at a concert in Munich. “In preparation for this, we made street music,” she says. Mainly to take the nervousness out of her trembling voice. At first “everyone passed by, nobody gave us any money, they didn’t really hear me”. But “after a few hours it clicked and I didn’t care at all”. Ten years later, she’s releasing her first EP, which she’s “so happy with” that she “wants to show it openly.”
