Munich band of the week: filt – Munich

Pilot Philipp Siegert, 29, flew a plane full of vacationers to Las Palmas for the last time in December 2021. As a result, most of the planes stayed on the ground because of the corona pandemic. For seven years he brought tourists to their holiday destinations, being a pilot was his childhood dream – but then he was fired.

He swapped the cockpit for his home studio and began to translate his lack of prospects into music. With his music he wants to reach people who, like him, find themselves in a supposedly hopeless situation.

“I probably can’t take anyone’s negative feelings away with my music, but at least I can convey the feeling that you’re not alone.” His new single “Falling” deals with the uncertainty and fear of making wrong life decisions that can make life difficult.

Philipp Siegert, who is a musician filter names, sings about distrust, longing and certainty. He talks about the fact that trust can sometimes be better than control and that making decisions on the basis of gut instinct can also have positive consequences.

And how does it all sound? Philipp turned his guitar into a drum set and used an old AKG microphone from the flea market, which is “junk, but good”. His grandmother’s creaking acoustic guitar is one of his main instruments. Together with a trumpet from Beirut, an unconventional indie sound is created. In his music you can find influences from electro, rock and pop. His current single is called “Falling” and was released at the end of February.

The video for “Falling” was partly shot with a Super 8 camera and presents various possible future versions of filt that could happen depending on his life choices.

As a one-man project, he plays a combination of field recordings, percussion and beats at his performances. His music has been played on many national radio stations and included in numerous playlists including Spotify’s “Indie Brandneu” and Amazon’s “Bedroom Pop”. bedroom pop? That fits well. “My ideas for the songs and compositions come to me spontaneously – mostly just before falling asleep.”

At the beginning of February he moved from Regensburg to Munich and now wants to find his place in Munich with his smooth yet complex indie pop music.
