Munich: Atomic Café comes with a series of parties in the Fat Cat – Munich

On Tuesday, there were early signs of a return for the Atomic Café (the Southgerman newspaper reported), now it’s certain: the legendary club, which thrilled Brit-Pop and Indie fans with its concerts and parties on Neuturmstrasse in Munich’s old town until January 1, 2015, will be back this year. Not as an independent club, but as a series of parties at Live/Evil in the Fat Cat. The start is planned for Friday, September 29th.

When the rumors were first reported last Tuesday, the news was dismissed as pure speculation. However, when Thomas Nemeth, co-founder of the Live/Evil club in the Gasteig temporary use, confirmed the following day that there were concrete plans, reference was made to a subsequent meeting on Thursday.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, the message was posted on the Atomic Café’s Facebook page: The “Lift-Off” is on Friday, September 29th, with a concert by the Munich Britrock band Blek-le-Roc planned. After the performance, DJs Ingo Black, Justin Barwick and Francesco Feilini, who was also a musician in the former Atomic Café band, will be spinning Five!Fast!!Hits!!! is known.

Even before this message was on the club’s homepage, which had appeared on social media earlier in the week but was then quickly deleted: “The Atomic Café will be back in action again. Watch out! (Autumn 2023)”.

The news caused euphoria among former regulars on social media

The initiator of the idea was Thomas Nemeth. He describes himself as a “big fan of the Atomic Café” and wanted to see if the music from back then still works today. That’s why he hired a DJ for the Live/Evil a few weeks ago, who used to DJ at the Atomic Café. When the evening was a success, Nemeth contacted Christian Heine and Roland Schunk, the former operators of the Atomic Café.

The first message on social media had already caused euphoria among former regulars. The SZ article collected more than 1500 likes on Instagram. Only one user was critical: “Some things shouldn’t be warmed up because they just can’t be as good as they used to be!” It is also clear to another user that years later it can no longer be the same as before. His hope: “These will be the best Ü40 parties in town.”
