The meetings were largely peaceful, said a police spokesman on Saturday afternoon. About 400 police officers were on duty. At times, some counter-demonstrators tried unsuccessfully to block the anti-abortion demonstration. “That only worked to a limited extent because they couldn’t block the entire width of the street,” said the police spokesman.
