Munich: Ander Art Festival 2022 at the Odeonsplatz – Munich

For the 25th time, the Ander Art Festival is pursuing a sensible objective this year: It offers a pleasant antithesis to what is happening on the Theresienwiese to the booming pop hits: a colorful program is offered right in the center, on Odeonsplatz , with exhibitions and a cultural program to take part in. And above all with music from all corners of the world, covering a wide variety of genres: there is something from almost everything – except Bavarian folk music and hits. The program will be opened by brass-heavy tunes: Mububanda is a “band project” that arose between the locations of its members, Munich and Budapest.

Hence the band’s name: short for the “Munich-Budapest Bande”. 13 members will take to the stage with an even larger array of instruments on Saturday (sporting instrument changes are planned during the performance) and perform songs composed by bandleaders Leo Winstel and Gergely Lukacs. They move somewhere “between techno, funk and pop”. Guitar, banjo, keyboard and flute complete the sound of the wind instruments.

A pure brass, even a pure tubist band is against it European tuba power: Their five tuba players play, first in fives, then with the Munich player Diba Ensemble around the bassist Julia Hornung. European Tube Power is a band that tries everything: jazz, pop, rock, classical or heavy metal. Jazz is played with the Diba Ensemble.

That Munich Ensemble presents works by the French composer and jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, who is often referred to as the founder of European jazz. After the opening by the mayor Katrin habenharm Annalu & Shavez announced: He, Shavez, is a native Peruvian and has been involved with various bands in the Munich Latino music scene. With Annalu he plays what was created on tours and trips together, most of it can be assigned to the Latino sound, the rest is correctly referred to as the broad genre of world music.

Wally Warning, known as the “Munich Reggae King”, follows. His summer hit “No monkey” is very old, but the newer Warning material is in no way inferior to its light-heartedness. Not only are the melodies full of lightness, but Warning’s lyrics are always positive and confident. Hip-hop with the rappers follows Waseem & momo novus & CCJ. The Israeli band closes with an Oriental-Mediterranean theme Cherry Bandora the evening. The melodies mix Israeli with Turkish-Greek sounds. The lyrics tell – accompanying the oriental-melancholic melodies – often heavy, emotional things, about life as an underdog or about broken hearts.
