Munich and Bavaria: culture and leisure tips from Max Beier – Munich

Romance and intrigue: For about 17 years, the successful telenovela “Sturm der Liebe” has been flickering across the screens in the ARD afternoon program. One of the main characters: the gay firefighter Tobias aka Max Beier. He left three years ago and concentrated primarily on cabaret: in the duo “Beier & Hang” he won several prizes, now his first solo is coming up in the Munich slaughterhouse: “Love & Order”. It almost goes without saying that it is also about love.

Monday: Levantine cuisine

I start the week with a morning swim in the Müller’sche Volksbad around the corner from me. The oldest and most beautiful pool in Munich, especially when it’s not that busy. Then I stroll through the Viktualienmarkt and get a soup from the Munich soup kitchen. I also need spices, which I can only find there at the spice factory. Because tonight I’m cooking Levantine, zatar squash with stewed eggplant. In the Levantine cuisine, unusual spices such as sumac, baharat or zatar are needed. To be honest, I don’t really know what these spices are, but they taste so good!

If you would like to try it, I recommend the book “Levante – So light, so good” by Tanja Dusy or a visit to the “Levante Mezze Bar” in Schwabing. In the late afternoon I go to the studio of the “Abendschau” in Freimann. Today I can tell you a little bit about my new program “Love & Order”, that on February 24 premiere at the slaughterhouse has. From 6 p.m. on Bavarian television.

Today it’s off to the studio and the rehearsal room of Marcel Gräfe and Jakob Reinhard. Here I have been rehearsing the new program diligently for the past few months and producing the music late into the night. Now the final changes and adjustments to my track “The Household Ninja” are pending, a rapped ode to all househusbands who live in the shadows of society and ensure clean homes. After I’ve cleaned up my own apartment, I’m off to the Kammerspiele. I have tickets for “Who always hopes, dies singing”, an Alexander Kluge revue by director Jan-Christoph Gockel. According to critics, the evening should be “a repair of our thinking”. I think that sounds quite reasonable. So let’s go.

Wednesday: Wellness for the head

At noon I go to my favorite hairdresser “Neven-Barbier und Haare” at Nockherberg. When it comes to hair, the guys here really know their stuff and the coffee is delicious too. Rarely have I received such good advice and, above all, such a good haircut. I can really recommend a visit here, especially for people with a beard. A little wellness trip for head and face. At 6 p.m. I meet in one of my favorite pubs, dem Rumpler in the Glockenbach district, to the sheephead. There is also a delicious beer and either roast pork or Munich schnitzel with horseradish breading! Hopefully I’ll play better this week than last. But even if not, you always have a cozy evening in the Rumpler.

Thursday: Tips from colleagues

After a hearty breakfast in Cafe Huller, where there are excellent fried eggs with fried potatoes, it goes to the slaughterhouse. Final preparations for tomorrow’s Munich premiere. Also present was my colleague, the cabaret artist Thomas Reis, who supported me with this project right from the start. We worked on the text together for months and in the last few weeks he gave me the finishing touches with his directing. His current program “By far the best” can currently be seen in the ARD media library. I’ve seen it several times and always discover something new in it. In the evening I might go to the Fattoria on Schlotthauerstrasse: excellent pasta, delicious wines and a boss who is always in a good mood. Just the right thing before such an important day and somehow already a tradition for me.

Friday: From duo to solo

Today the time has finally come: premiere in the slaughterhouse. After nine years as a duo as “Beier & Hang”, my solo career begins today. When I think about the last few years, I have a crying and a smiling eye, because I look back a bit melancholy on a wonderful time with my colleague David Hang. Countless shows, TV appearances, cabaret prizes and tens of thousands of kilometers in our touring vehicle. At the same time, I’m dying to have new experiences as a solo cabaret artist.

“Love & Order” is a wild mix of crazy comedy, sometimes political punch lines, music and a lot of personal things from my life. For example, how the vacation together changes when your girlfriend is a PhD archaeologist. And I’ll answer the questions you may never have asked yourself: why are lovers so rare as a couple? What is at the heart of Putin? How much animal love is not sodomy? Is the traffic light a threesome or just a traffic obstruction? Is love really all you need? Can we still be rescued? If yes why? Come by, find out more!

Saturday: Georg Kreisler Musical

After so much excitement about the premiere, I’m happy to be able to be a spectator tonight at the Theater Drehleier, where my wonderful colleague and longtime friend Desiree von Delft “Lola Blau – Musical for an actress by Georg Kreisler” presents. Together with her, Jenny Löffler and Sandro Kirtzel, we are also playing the comedy “To hell with the others” here from May 18th. After the performance we’ll definitely go for a nightcap together to Vivo on Lothringerstraße. This bar has always been there and I can recommend the delicious chilli for a late hunger pang. It’s even available vegetarian now.

Sunday: holiday feelings

rest day. Time to relax at the end of this exciting week. After my first cup of coffee, I walk through the Au and along the Isar. On the way I get what I think is the tastiest bread in the world from Brotmanufaktur Schmidt: the “farmer’s crust”. There is nothing finer for me than a good snack. Then I drive to Prien am Chiemsee. My second home. As soon as I arrive here, a holiday feeling sets in. A large part of my family lives there and I always like to come here when I have a few days off. Like now. And so I end the week with a tasty dinner in the “Hacienda Tapas Bar”. In this sense: “Love & Order” is all you need!

Max Beier grew up as the son of cabaret artists Jan-Peter Petersen and Angelika Beier in Munich and Hamburg and graduated from high school in 2011 at Munich’s St. Anna High School. From 2012 to 2015 he completed his acting training at the New Munich Drama School. During their training, Beier and his colleague David Hang formed the cabaret duo Beier & Hang and won several prizes with their programs. Together with Hang he also presented the “Campus Magazin” on Bavarian television until 2017. He is known to a larger audience as Tobias Ehrlinger from the ARD telenovela “Storm of Love”. Now Beier is going on tour with his first solo “Love & Order”.
