Munich and Bavaria: cultural and leisure tips from Johannes Berzl – Munich

Rita Falk has finished shooting the eighth Eberhofer film, and the comedy “Guglhupfgeschwader” will be in cinemas on August 4th. In addition to the well-known stars, the young Upper Palatinate Johannes Berzl can now breathe life into the episode’s main character “Lotto-Otto”. Everything revolves around them in the new case: Berzl plays the gambling addict who asks the village policeman Eberhofer for help: his kiosk has exploded, his mother has died and unscrupulous debt collectors are breathing down his neck.

Monday: coaching and coffee

Helmut Fischer’s regular café was the “Münchner Freiheit” on the square of the same name in Schwabing. A memorial there commemorates the actor.

Every Monday I meet my mentor, the actress Gabrielle Odinis, for coaching. She took me under her wing and trained me. So I was able to learn everything I need to know from them. After work is done, I usually stay for a coffee in the coaching lounge or we go to the Café Münchner Freiheit. There’s a particularly delicious prince regent cake. Director Thomas Stammberger, who among other things wrote the anniversary comedy title “Ein Bayer in der Unterwelt” and staged it at Nockherberg, and is also Gabrielle’s husband, often joins them. He comes from my home region in the Bavarian Forest and put me in touch with Gabrielle a few years ago. Without them I wouldn’t exist in the industry, I owe them a lot. But actress and coach Mirja Mahir is also at my side. For me it was important from the beginning to have a multi-sided embossing.

Today we’re off to beautiful Bayrischzell, because I’m in front of the camera for the ZDF series “Frühling” with Simone Thomalla. I slip into the role of a mountain guard who is called to help in the event of a cable car accident. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal more yet, as today is my second day of shooting for it. It’s just nice that I can develop a new character with creative freedom together with the director, in this case with Tom Zenker, and put myself in their place.

Wednesday: Favorite series

As a newcomer, it’s extremely important to maintain industry contacts and it helps me a lot to learn from the experience of the casters, producers and directors. After this meeting day I plan to watch one of my favorite series: “You are wanted”. The series by Frank Kusche and Matthias Schweighöfer makes you think, is very serious and realistic. Too bad there hasn’t been a third season yet. My stomach will certainly report at a later hour. Pasta al forno with lots of cheese is always possible and it’s not the first time I’ve made it. I like to be in the kitchen regularly when time permits.

Thursday: News from the Eberhofer

Although it’s been a week, I still can’t put into words how excited, excited and also a bit nervous I was at the premiere of “Guglhupfgeschwader” in the Mathäser cinema. The premiere was also the start of the current cinema tour, and I’m always happy to meet the cast around Sebastian Bezzel, Simon Schwarz and Lisa Maria Potthoff, as well as the important people behind the scenes Rita Falk, Kerstin Schmidbauer, Franziska Aigner and the one and only Ed Herzog. And to see the new Eberhofer on the screen with the fans, which officially starts in cinemas today, is simply indescribable.

Friday is phone day. I think regular exchanges are very important, also with my colleague Thomas Schmauser, whom I know from a shoot together. Or to Oscar winner and director Stefan Ruzowitzky. Then I sort my to-dos for the coming week, maybe there will be a VIP evening for the show “Wunderbar” at the Gop-Varieté in Munich. Or in the Deutsches Theater, where I will be in the homage “Falco” no later than the new musical season from October.

Saturday: cozy beer garden

Celebrity tips for Munich and Bavaria: In the heat, beer garden visitors mainly look for shady places under trees or parasols in the "Royal Deer Garden".

Since my lederhosen are past their prime, I wanted to see dear Axel Munz from “Trachten Angermaier” on Landsberger Strasse on Saturday. We know each other from a few events and I think his range is great. The Wiesn is coming faster than you think, and I’m glad that it will take place this year with all the necessary protective measures. Maybe after shopping there is still time to go hiking with friends. I love the mountains, especially the Kramerspitz in Garmisch. It’s not that easy to conquer, but the view of the Zugspitze massif and the Karwendel mountains makes up for it. Depending on the weather, we might decide to go to the Hirschgarten. It’s really cozy there under the shady chestnut trees. It magically attracts me. Mei, I’m just a Bavarian!

As far as schedules allow, I try to be in my home country on Sundays, turn off my cell phone and spend time with my family. At lunchtime I go with my parents to Grandma and Grandpa. It’s a shame that Formula One has just started the summer break. I’ve been watching it regularly with my grandparents since I was a little boy, I guess I inherited that gene. Today I visit one of my favorite places instead, namely the “Goggolori” or maybe the “Lindner Bräu” in Bad Kötzting. Or I look at Stefan Dietl in his “Hotel Mariandl Singing host” stop by and have a good time.

Having grown up in the district of Cham in the Upper Palatinate, Johannes Berzl knew after graduating from high school that he wanted to turn his passion for film and television into a career. The 22-year-old is currently studying media sciences and was able to gain initial experience in front of the camera in numerous short films before making his cinema debut in 2019 in the documentary film “Gray is No Color”. The TV landscape also became aware of the native Bavarian, he played in “The Undertaker” and “Watzmann determined”. Now he can be seen in the new Eberhofer thriller “Guglhupfgeschwader” by Rita Falk.
