Munich: Alice Hasters reads in the Volkstheater – Munich

“It’s funny, we’re sitting here like we’re at a press conference,” says moderator Esther Diestelmann, opening the evening, which, given the setting, actually turns out to be formal and highly political. The black-covered tables on the stage, the dark curtain behind them, fit the dark picture of the “world boiling over” that Alice Hasters paints at the beginning of the reading. Corona pandemic, war and populism – the many crises caused the Cologne author to ask herself in 2021 when the situation would collapse. With a gentle voice and well-considered words, Hasters describes how her new book “Identity Crisis” was born out of excessive demands.
