Munich Airport: Lufthansa ground staff called on a warning strike on Wednesday – Munich

The Verdi union called on Lufthansa ground staff to go on an all-day warning strike at Munich Airport and other locations on Wednesday. A Verdi spokesman said this early Monday morning. In addition to the Bavarian capital, the Lufthansa locations in Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf are also affected.

Around 400 Lufthansa flights are planned for this Wednesday at Munich Airport. The flight schedule includes around 200 departures to national and international destinations and around 200 arrivals. It was initially unclear on Monday morning which of these flights could take place. But passengers will probably have to prepare for significant restrictions. “As all ground workers from maintenance to passenger and aircraft handling are called on a warning strike, major flight cancellations and delays are likely to occur,” Verdi wrote in a statement on Monday morning.

The background to the warning strike is the ongoing group-wide collective bargaining for the approximately 25,000 ground employees at Deutsche Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Cargo, among others. Verdi wants to increase the pressure on employers with the warning strike.

An offer from the employers in the second round of negotiations on February 23rd was rejected – it was about increases that were perceived as too low and the 36-month term. In July 2022, a strike by ground staff largely paralyzed flight operations in Munich and other locations.
