Munich: 270 million euro rescue package for affordable housing – Munich

With 270 million euros, the city is helping developers to build around 2,500 affordable apartments. This is unique in Germany. The subsidy is intended to compensate for the rapid increase in construction costs and interest. Who will benefit from it in the future.

Construction costs are rising, as are interest rates – and many construction projects are becoming financially tight. In order to ensure that the construction of affordable housing in particular is not delayed or even comes to a standstill, the city is spending a lot of money: 270 million euros are to be paid out as grants to property developers, cooperatives or municipal housing companies. Anne Krins from the Mitbauzentrale judges: “There is no other city in Germany that does so much for its housing construction.” Ultimately, the residents of Munich, who keep the city running, should benefit from the cost-of-living adjustment.
