An 18-year-old Italian was arrested on the A8 motorway in Irschenberg because he is suspected of having embezzled a car in Munich and wanting to bring it to Italy. The man rented an Audi A4 Avant from a car sharing company in Munich last Wednesday morning and drove it onto the Salzburg motorway.
However, Commissariat 51 of the Munich police, which handles property crimes related to gangs, got wind of the matter due to its own investigations and assumed that the Italian was planning to do something illegal. At Irschenberg, officers from the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters stopped the car and temporarily arrested the driver. It also turned out that he did not have a valid driver’s license.
The Italian is now in custody. How he managed to rent a car without a valid driver’s license is still being investigated.
