In Mülheim an der Ruhr, North Rhine-Westphalia, there was a police operation at an accommodation for refugees on Saturday evening. A man had apparently rioted and defended himself. He then lost consciousness in the ambulance.

A 26-year-old Guinean died after a police operation in an initial reception center in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The man had put up massive resistance during the operation, as they did Police announced on Sunday night. When the police arrived, the man was reportedly in his room and attacked the officers there. Police overpowered the fugitive

The emergency services finally overpowered the 26-year-old, who continued to resist strongly, and temporarily arrested him. Two officers were injured by bites and one female officer was injured by a kick in the head, the police said. Several ambulances were requested for the accommodation resident and the emergency services. The man then lost consciousness during his treatment in the ambulance. According to police, he was taken to a hospital under resuscitation measures, where he died.

The investigation into the incident and the cause of the man’s death was taken over by the Bochum police. According to the statement, the officers involved in the operation had to receive psychological support. The police initially did not provide any further details on Sunday night.

The Bochum police have set up a murder squad, a spokesman said. This happens routinely. The autopsy of the body was scheduled to take place on Sunday or Monday to determine the cause of death.
