Muffatwerk: Interview with the managing directors on the 30-year-old – Munich

Christian Waggershauser and Dietmar Lupfer have been running the Muffatwerk, one of Munich’s most exciting cultural centers, for 30 years. They have exhausted the limits of the site – but their space for ideas is still wide open.

There were 15 applicants. Christian Waggershauser and Dietmar Lupfer were awarded the contract with their concept “Muffathalle for everyone. But no arbitrariness”. 30 years ago, the dynamic duo turned the power plant, which later became a tennis hall, into a cultural center. And they delivered what they had promised: music, dance, theatre, media art, pop, subculture, partying – some of the most exciting things that can be seen in these segments in Munich, a good 12,000 times to date. In terms of area, Lupfer, 59, and Waggershauser, 62, after the incorporation of Ampere and Studios, have reached the 3,000 square meter site limits. But your room for ideas is still wide open.
