The MTV Europe Music Awards were scheduled to take place in Paris on November 5th. However, the event was now canceled at short notice.

In less than three weeks, the international music industry wanted to celebrate in Paris. The MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMAs) were supposed to take place there on November 5th. But now the event has been canceled, among other things was announced on the event’s homepage.

“In view of the volatility of world events, we have decided not to allow the MTV EMAs to take place in 2023,” it said in a short statement. This is done “out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the earth to bring the show to life.”

The next edition of the EMAs will not take place until 2024

The MTV EMAs are “an annual celebration of global music.” Because of the “devastating events in Israel and Gaza,” it is “not the right moment for a global celebration. Given the thousands of deaths, this is a moment of sadness.”

However, voting for the nominated artists and bands on the MTV website should continue. The winners will also receive their award accordingly. The event will not take place regularly again until November 2024.

The MTV EMAs would have taken place in Paris in just over two weeks for the first time since 1995. Jared Leto’s (51) band Thirty Seconds To Mars, star DJ David Guetta (55), singer Anne-Marie (32) and rapper Coi Leray (26) were scheduled to perform at the award ceremony.

Nominated stars include Billie Eilish (21), Miley Cyrus (30), Taylor Swift (33), Nicki Minaj (40) and Ed Sheeran (32). The rappers Apache 207 (25), Kontra K (36), Luciano (29) and Ski Aggu (25) as well as the singers Nina Chuba (24) and Ayliva (25) are in the running for the award as the best German act.
