MPs – New Heads for Berlin – Bavaria

In the next legislative period, some MPs will have to familiarize themselves with new ones, they have been elected for the first time. Some could already look forward to election Sunday evening, others still didn’t know at 10.30 p.m. whether it was actually enough.

CSU

The CSU suffered severe losses and no longer won all direct mandates in the Free State. In all probability the party lost a mandate in Munich. All other direct mandates go to the CSU. Like in Neu-Ulm, where the Weißenhorn Alexander Engelhard, 48, has a difficult legacy. He succeeds Georg Nüßlein, who was in the Bundestag for almost 20 years and has now left the CSU because of the mask affair. The industrial engineer Engelhard operates an organic grain mill in Attenhofen. Ralph Edelhäusser, 48, wins the direct mandate in Roth. The trained banker has been mayor of the city of Roth since 2011. He succeeds Marlene Mortler, who resigned from the Bundestag in 2019 to become a member of the European Parliament.

As one of three new women for the CSU moves Martina Englhardt-Kopf, 39, entered the Bundestag. She replaces Karl Holmeier in the Schwandorf / Cham constituency. The director of studies most recently worked for the government of the Upper Palatinate. She gained experience in local politics as a Schwandorf district councilor and city councilor. Susanne Hierl is the new member of the constituency of Amberg-Neumarkt, previously represented by Alois Karl. The 48-year-old is a lawyer and specializes in tax law. The third new woman in the CSU regional group is the former member of the state parliament Mechthilde Wittmann, 53. She now represents the constituency of Oberallgäu, the home of her partner Thomas Kreuzer, the head of the CSU parliamentary group.

Jonas Geissler, 37, is the first member of the Bundestag from Kronach in Upper Franconia. In the past, the constituency of Coburg / Kronach was always represented by people from Coburg. The chairman of the Junge Union Oberfranken succeeds Hans Michelbach, who is leaving the Bundestag after 27 years. Tobias Winkler, 43, succeeds the former Federal Minister Christian Schmidt in the constituency of Fürth. Most recently he headed the European Parliament’s liaison office in Munich.

SPD

The regional group of the SPD in the Bundestag has grown. There are also a few young new MPs. As Johannes Schätzl. The 28-year-old was previously a city councilor in Hauzenberg in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau. He works at the Friedrichshafen gear factory, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers. The Juso state chairwoman is also likely to have made it into the Bundestag Carmen Wegge, 32. The passionate poetry slammer was born in the Ruhr area and grew up in Fürstenfeldbruck. She is a lawyer with the professional goal of being a labor judge.

In the second attempt it has for Sebastian Roloff worked, in 2017 it still failed. This time, too, it was not enough for the direct mandate in the Munich-South constituency, which was again won by the CSU man Michael Kuffer. The 38-year-old from Munich has been working as a lawyer for several years. He also works as an honorary judge at the Munich Regional Labor Court. Even Andreas Mehltretter, 29, made it on the second attempt. It was again not enough for a majority in the Freising constituency, but he is still moving into the Bundestag at number 15 on the list. Mehltretter is responsible for economics and digitization in the Freising City Council. Late in the evening it was not yet clear whether it was for Markus Hümpfer was enough. The engineer is parliamentary group chairman in the municipality of Schonungen (district of Schweinfurt) and also deputy chairman of the Lower Franconia SPD. Also for the co-chair of the Upper Palatinate SPD Carolin Wagner moving in is not yet certain.

Green

The regional group of the Bavarian Greens in the Bundestag is growing enormously: The number of MPs from Bavaria has now almost doubled. In addition, after the extrapolations in the evening, they were able to sensationally derive a direct mandate from the CSU. Solves in the Munich-South constituency Jamila Schäfer the CSU man Michael Kuffer. The constituency has been consistently represented by the CSU since 2002. Peter Gauweiler won it four times in a row, until Michael Kuffer followed in 2017. So after 19 years, a Green politician manages the transfer in the south of Munich. The 28-year-old is deputy federal chairwoman of the Greens and was previously the spokeswoman for the Green Youth in Munich. In addition to European policy, Schäfer’s focus areas are development policy, flight and migration as well as the fight against right-wing extremism Der Miesbacher Karl Bear, 36, moves into 12th place in the Bundestag. He has the political ox tour behind him: he has already contested three election campaigns, so far he has always just missed the entry. This year it worked.

The woman from Nuremberg Tessa Ganserer, 44, is leaving the state parliament and entering the Bundestag. It also has from Franconia Niklas Wagener, 23, made it to Berlin – as the youngest candidate of the Bavarian Greens. So far he was a member of the city council of Aschaffenburg. Wagener is studying forestry, which is why he wants to work primarily to preserve the forest in the Bundestag. The political scientist Marlene Schoenberger, 31, made it to number 15 in the Bundestag. Born in Landshut, she already knows her way around parliaments, she was a research assistant in the state parliament. The Coburger Johannes Wagner, 28, is a doctor and, as a member of the Bundestag, would like to focus on health. He wants to fight for better medical care in the countryside. Tina Winklmann, 41, is district chairwoman of the Greens in Upper Palatinate. She wants to bring her experience as a trade unionist to the Bundestag. Leon Eckert, 26, moves into the Bundestag at number 18 on the list. He has been the third mayor of Eching since 2020, and he is also involved in the voluntary fire brigade. The Upper Bavarian also received a mandate Elisabeth Löwenbourg-Brzezinski, 37. A mandate for the Regensburg woman Wiebke Richter, 52, is still pending.

In addition to Schäfer, two fresh candidates from Munich made it to the Bundestag: Saskia Weishaupt, 28, state spokeswoman for the Green Youth in Bavaria, is moving to Berlin as the top candidate for the Green Youth in Bavaria. Doris Wagner, 58, has already been to the Bundestag once: from 2013-2017 she was a member of parliament in Berlin, and in 2017 she narrowly missed the move. This year it worked again.

FDP

Maximilian Funke-Kaiser joined the FDP after the debacle in the 2013 federal election when the Liberals were thrown out of parliament. Now Funke-Kaiser is sitting there himself. The 27-year-old is the state chairman of the Young Liberals Bavaria. The Augsburg graduate holds a degree in business administration and heads two start-ups and a family company. Even Kristine Lütke, 38, is an entrepreneur. In 2018 she was federal chairwoman of the Wirtschaftsjunioren Deutschland, the largest network of entrepreneurs and executives under 40 years of age. Today she is treasurer of the FDP Bavaria and is involved in care policy. Fear of moving in must be Muhanad Al-Halak. The FDP politician came to Lower Bavaria from Iraq when he was eleven. The 31-year-old is a wastewater master in Grafenau and has been a city councilor and district chairman of the Freyung-Grafenau FDP there since 2020.

The left is clearly losing in Bavaria. It can only Ateş Gurpinar expect a mandate. The 37-year-old is co-state spokesman for the Bavarian left and has been the deputy federal party chairman since this year. The studied theater and media scientist from Munich helped build the student association Linke.SDS.

AfD

The AFD has clearly lost compared to 2017 in Bavaria. It could almost be for Gerrit Huy will. She is a qualified mathematician and has mainly contributed to the program content of the AfD. As head of the Federal Committee for Labor and Social Affairs, the 68-year-old from Inning in Upper Bavaria helped shape the party’s social concept. Even for Rainer Rothfuß it will be tight. The 50-year-old wanted to become mayor of Lindau on Lake Constance – at that time for the CSU. A rift broke out and Rothfuß withdrew his candidacy. Now he wants to move into the Bundestag under a different party logo. The doctor of geography and chairman of the AfD Lindau branch has often attracted attention due to the spread of crude conspiracy ideology. At a rally in Würzburg, he recently spoke of refugees as a “geopolitical weapon” that would be used for “covert purposes”.
