The actors’ and screenwriters’ strike in the USA delays the theatrical release of the science fiction film “Dune: Part 2”. It won’t hit the big screen until next year.
Fans of the blockbuster “Dune” (2021) have to wait longer for the sequel to hit theaters because of the strike in Hollywood. The science fiction spectacle “Dune: Part 2” will not be released in early November as originally planned, but only in the coming year. Studio Warner Bros. announced the new launch for March 15, 2024.
The ongoing double strike by actors and screenwriters in the US has largely paralyzed operations in Hollywood. For example, members of the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA do not appear in front of the camera during the industrial action and do not advertise their films.
“Dune: Part 2” stars like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh would therefore not attend any promotional events as long as the strike lasts. The shooting of the novel adaptation, again directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve (“Blade Runner 2049”), has long been completed.
The first part of “Dune” had a very good result at the box office in 2021 despite the pandemic. The sci-fi epic also won six Oscars, including for Hans Zimmer’s score and for visual effects, which involved German Gerd Nefzer. The focus of the film, based on Frank Herbert’s novel “Der Wüstenplanet” from 1965, is the planet Arrakis with the valuable substance Spice, over which good and evil forces fight.
