Mourning for Nuremberg city council and “political drag queen” – Bavaria

The city of Nuremberg mourns the Green City Councilor Uwe Scherzer, who was also known as “Uschi Nonsense”. Mayor Marcus König (CSU) praised the 54-year-old as a “visible and well-known face of the LGBTIQ* community” who has been campaigning for equality for queer people for more than three decades. As a “political drag queen”, Scherzer was not only visible in the scene and on Christopher Street Day. Since 2020 he has also represented the concerns of homosexual, transsexual and bisexual Nuremberg residents on the city council, including as queer-political spokesman for the Greens parliamentary group. The “stubbornness and perseverance” with which Scherzer campaigned for equality and against discrimination will be “missing in the city council and in the city society,” said the mayor, who was “personally” dismayed by Scherzer’s death. He died unexpectedly on Sunday. The city of Nuremberg arranged for mourning flags to be displayed at the town hall from Wednesday to Friday.
