Norwegian Kristin Harila, 36, a former cross-country skier, hasn’t been in the eight-thousander business for very long. In 2021 she climbed the first mountain in this category – and set a record in her first season. Within twelve hours she scaled both Mount Everest and Lhotse, a feat that no woman before her had managed. For the current season, she had set herself another record: to climb all 14 eight-thousanders within six months, faster than the fastest man. The best time of the Nepalese Nirmal Purja is six months and six days. But now Kristin Harila had to give up. On the phone, she reviews the season.
