Vettel is keeping his comeback in the Sports Car World Championship open

There is always speculation about Sebastian Vettel’s comeback as a racing driver. The former world champion has now commented on the latest rumors.
Regarding speculation about a start in the endurance world championship, the four-time Formula 1 world champion told the trade magazine “Auto, Motor und Sport” in Suzuka: “Nothing has been signed or decided so far, but I have the matter in the back of my mind. I have Still time to decide.” There is talk that the 36-year-old will take part in test drives for the British Jota team in October.
“It is known that we are working on using a second car in 2024. In this context, we are of course also talking to some drivers with different experiences in racing,” said Jota team boss Dieter Gass when asked about the Vettel speculation on the motorsport portal. magazin.com and added: “Even if there is a test drive, it is still no guarantee of a signature.”
More often in the paddock again
Vettel declared his career over after the previous season, but has recently appeared more frequently in the Formula 1 paddock again. “If at some point I come to the conclusion that it’s not possible without racing, then I’ll drive again,” said the Hessian on the sidelines of the Grand Prix in Japan last weekend. A start in the 24-hour classic in Le Mans could be particularly attractive for Vettel.
There is also speculation that Mick Schumacher could drive in the Sports Car World Championship next year. Alpine is said to be interested in signing the 24-year-old Mercedes test driver. “It is true that we are having discussions,” admitted the interim team boss of the Alpine racing team, Bruno Famin. “It would be good for him, but it’s a chance for both of us.
