By January 2033, 43 million old driving licenses in Germany will have to be converted into new EU card driving licenses. The first birth cohorts have to hurry – the deadline is running out for them.

The first deadline for the mandatory exchange of old driving licenses ends this Tuesday (July 19). Specifically, this applies to all drivers born between 1953 and 1958 with old paper driving licenses that were issued up to December 31, 1998. These must first be exchanged for an EU driving license card. Anyone who has not made the exchange in time and is checked must reckon with a warning fine.
