The Russian capital, the Rostov region, neighboring Ukraine, and that of Lipetsk, announced on Saturday reinforced security measures in the face of the rebellion of the paramilitary group Wagner. “Because of the information (us) reaching, anti-terrorist activities are underway in Moscow with the aim of strengthening security measures”, wrote on Telegram messaging the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.
In the south of the country, in the Rostov region where the Wagner group claims to have entered, calls to stay at home have been made. The authorities then called on the inhabitants of the eponymous capital not to go to the city center. Images and online publications show armed men near official buildings. The governor of the Russian region of Lipetsk, 420 km south of Moscow, also announced “reinforced security measures”, calling on the population to “keep calm” and to give up traveling to the south.
