More than 84,000 candidates still awaiting assignment on Parcoursup

The tension is rising for nearly 100,000 young people, a few hours from the final whistle. While the main phase of Parcoursup ends at midnight, more than 84,000 candidates are still awaiting an assignment proposal in higher education for the start of the next school year this Friday. According to the latest count from the Ministry of Higher Education, which dates from Thursday, 84,811 candidates had no offer of assignment, out of a total of 917,000: 42,146 high school students, 25,471 candidates requesting reorientation and 17,194 enrolled at the ‘foreign.

Last year, at this time in the Parcoursup calendar, there were 94,187 candidates waiting for a proposal, out of a total of 936,000. An additional admission phase had opened on June 15 and will end in mid-September: it is open to candidates without a proposal for admission to the main phase, to those registered on Parcoursup but who had not confirmed their wishes at the beginning of the procedure, as well as to those who had not registered on the platform. These candidates can make up to 10 wishes, but unlike the main phase, they must now rank their wishes in order of preference. This additional phase had made it possible to offer training to 74,000 candidates in 2022, according to the ministry.

160 baccalaureate holders on the floor last year

Faced with the criticism that Parcoursup continues to arouse, the Ministries of Education and Higher Education are trying to improve its transparency. This year, for example, all training courses had to specify their “criteria for analyzing applications”. They also shortened the candidate response period to 37 days from 108 days in 2018 to “reduce the stress period”.
