Since the end of the main phase of Parcoursup, which ended Friday evening, more than 77,000 candidates are still waiting for a proposal for assignment in higher education for the next school year.
According to the final count of the Ministry of Higher Education, which takes into account the final results of the baccalaureate, 77,647 candidates had no job offer on Sunday, out of a total of 917,000: 36,178 high school students, 24,474 candidates requesting reorientation and 16,995 educated abroad, according to a press release from the Ministry of Higher Education.
Less than last year, at the same stage
Last year, at the same time of the phase, they were 94,000 candidates to have received no proposal during the main phase.
To date, “more than 6,300 training courses still offer more than 100,000 vacant places (excluding apprenticeship)”, details the ministry. In 2022, nearly 74,000 candidates received an admission proposal thanks to the complementary phase.
So far, “570,107 graduates have received at least one admission proposal. More than 9 out of 10 high school students have already obtained, as in 2022, at least one answer to their wishes to pursue higher education”, welcomed the ministry, adding that “this improvement in results also concerns students in reorientation, who are more than 8 out of 10 to have had at least one positive response to their wishes”.
A shortened main phase
The main admission phase on this platform for access to higher education ended on Friday at midnight. This year, the deadlines have been shortened: the main phase “will have lasted 37 days, compared to 108 days in 2018”.
“It’s a big development and it allows better organization from the point of view of students and establishments,” reacted Sylvie Retailleau, the Minister of Higher Education in an article in Le Parisien on Sunday.
An additional admission phase opened on June 15 and will end in mid-September: it is open to candidates without a proposal for admission to the main phase, to those registered on Parcoursup but who had not confirmed their wishes at the beginning of the procedure, as well as to those who had not registered on the platform.
These candidates can make up to 10 wishes, but unlike the main phase, they must now rank their wishes in order of preference.
Enter the access commission, another track for graduates
Since July 1, candidates can also contact the commission for access to higher education (CAES) of their academy, to help them find training “closer to their project”. According to the ministry, “3,962 graduates have already requested this support and are currently being supported”.
Last year, at the end of September, there were 160 high school graduates without assignment, out of a total of 936,000 candidates, according to the ministry, which does not specify the number of young people who left the platform, either to work directly or to go to training. excluding Parcoursup.
For next year, the ministry is working on new arrangements: “We are thinking about making the information on the reasons for the refusals more explicit”, indicated Sylvie Retailleau to the Parisian. “This could be done in the form of pre-answers to be ticked by the school, if it is a question of insufficient marks, of the reception capacity already reached… This is the next step”, he said. she said, acknowledging that there were “still improvements to be made”.
