The anxiety grows hour by hour. Sixty-one passengers from two flights from South Africa tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in Amsterdam, the Dutch health authority announced on Saturday. The latter analyzes the results in search of the new Omicron variant.
According to the expert group of the World Health Organization, preliminary data from this variant, whose identification was announced Thursday in South Africa, suggests that it presents “an increased risk of reinfection” compared to other variants, including the Delta, dominant and already very contagious. “We now know that 61 of the results were positive and 531 negative” on the two flights, announced the Dutch health authority (GGD), specifying that the passengers tested positive were placed in quarantine in a hotel near the airport of ‘Amsterdam-Schipol.
