The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care exceeded 5,900 people on Friday, a stable figure for a week, while France crossed the 100,000 death mark on Thursday, according to figures published by Public Health France.

In total, there were 5,914 people in critical care services (which include resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring), against 5,924 on Thursday. In twenty-four hours, 463 patients were admitted to these services treating the most serious cases, against 501 the day before.

Slight decrease in hospitalizations

Since Monday, however, the number of Covid-19 patients received in intensive care units has stabilized above 5,900, still far from the peak of the first wave in April 2020 (7,000). The total number of people in hospital is also down slightly with 30,472 coronavirus positive patients currently hospitalized, against 30,668 the day before. A total of 2,044 people have been hospitalized in the past twenty-four hours.

On the death side, 309 people died from Covid-19 in twenty-four hours. France crossed the 100,000 death mark on Thursday, joining Great Britain (127,000 dead) and Italy (115,000 dead) in Europe. Other countries (Belgium, Portugal) have a higher mortality per capita.
