The published figures have just been published by CBO-Box Office. More than 2 million spectators found their way back to theaters during their first week of reopening. For comparison, the same week of May in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic, cinemas had welcomed 2.4 million spectators, and last August, when the blockbuster was released. Tenet, they attracted 2.3 million.
This performance post-May 19 is attested while after seven months of closure, the rooms are subjected to a gauge of 35% and to the curfew at 9 p.m. which excludes late screenings.
Dupontel, big winner
Albert Dupontel’s comedy Goodbye Cons, who had made a very promising start before seeing his career suspended by confinement, is returning to success. The film, crowned since by seven Caesar, attracted more than 500,000 spectators.
New products take pride of place over the rest of the box office: manga for teens Demon slayer, adapted from a successful series and which reached attendance records in Japan and the United States (350,000 admissions), in front of a film for young audiences, Tom & jerry (250,000 entries). Follow Fly Me, a “feel-good movie” with Victor Belmondo, grandson of Jean-Paul Belmondo and the absurd comedy Mandibles by Quentin Dupieux with the comic duo of the Palma Show, each of which attracts more than 100,000 spectators.
