More than 106,000 demonstrators in France according to the ministry, more than 150,000 according to the CGT

There is of course the Covid-19 and its health restrictions. Then, the rain added to Labor Day this Saturday. Despite this, a total of 106,650 people demonstrated in France for May 1, including 17,000 in Paris, the Interior Ministry said. The CGT counting 150,000 demonstrators across the country, including 25,000 in the capital.

The Interior Ministry counted 281 demonstrations in the country and 56 arrests, including 46 in Paris. He also reported six police officers injured, including three in Paris.

“Yellow vests” present in parades

In 2019, the Ministry of the Interior had counted 164,000 demonstrators and the CGT 310,000. Last year the unions organized a virtual May Day because of confinement restrictions.

Jobs, salaries, management of the Covid-19 crisis by the government, restrictions on freedoms …: in the processions, the demands were varied, the challenge of the unemployment insurance reform, which is due to come into force on July 1 , coming back repeatedly. “Yellow vests” took part in several parades, including the Parisian demonstration.
