More than 100,000 ChatGPT user data have surfaced on the Dark Web over the past year.

in the latest blog postpublishedOn June 20, cybersecurity firm Group-IB discovered that over 100,000 compromised ChatGPT accounts were leaked to various Dark Web marketplaces.

The post noted that more employees are choosing ChatGPT in hopes of increasing productivity in areas of expertise ranging from software development to business communications, where ChatGPT stores a history of search queries and AI responses.

Group-IB also revealed that ChatGPT account data has been compromised and has been leaked to the Dark Web since early June 2022 and peaked in May 2023 when more than 26,000 accounts were leaked.

The company states that “Asia Pacific” had the highest number of ChatGPT accounts stolen during that period. This represents more than 40% of all compromised credentials.

Dmitry Shestakov, Group-IB’s head of threat intelligence, commented on the matter:

Many organizations have ChatGPT integrated into their company workflows. This allows employees to enter confidential information or use bots to optimize the company’s proprietary code. And as ChatGPT defaults, all conversations are preserved. It can inadvertently be a treasure trove of sensitive information to an attacker. If they get account credentials
