More and more dancers are founding independent companies. – Culture

Winter hangs heavy over Berlin, but not in the dancers’ bones. The members of the newly founded ensemble that bears the name of the capital: Berlin Ballet Company are training in a rehearsal hall at the Deutsche Oper. Sixteen legs are stretched and bent, arms first neatly sorted, then intertwined like the finest garlands. The company is not completely assembled; it is preparing step by step for upcoming performances. Not everyone has to compete for this. Only the three initiators are always on site: Alexander Abdukarimov, Arshak Ghalumyan and Oleksandr Shpak – three ex-ballerinos from the State Ballet, which has its headquarters just a few meters away. Friend or foe? More likely: a completely different league.
