Moosthenning: father attacks family with knife – police shoot – Bavaria

A 40-year-old is said to have injured his separated wife, their sons and his mother-in-law in Lower Bavaria with a knife. The attack in Moosthenning (Dingolfing Landau district) took place on Saturday morning, the police said. The man was caught by officers who were summoned and shot in the leg. Police said he was still in the hospital on Sunday.

According to initial findings, he is said to have forced his way into the woman’s house. There he attacked the two boys aged two and eight years and the woman. The children were “not inconsiderably” injured, the woman slightly. When the 65-year-old mother-in-law came, the man is said to have injured her neck. The two women and the children were able to escape from the house.

When the police came shortly thereafter, the man had just injured himself and ignored all instructions to put the knife away – even when using pepper spray, police said. Because he then approached an officer in a threatening manner with a knife, he once fired his pistol and injured the man in the leg. Then he was overpowered.

According to the information, there was a judicial ban on contact with his wife and children. He had already violated this. The police did not comment on possible motives at the weekend. The State Criminal Police Office is now investigating – as is usual in such cases – because of the shooting. The 40-year-old is also being investigated.
