Monumental, this braille fresco also speaks to the blind

Hard to miss it. For several days, the immense facade of the Ricordeau university restaurant, in the city center of Nantes, has been adorned with multiple colors, large capital letters and strange white half-spheres. Because this new 12 meter high fresco, created by the Nantes artist The Blind supported by Pick up production, is aimed at all passers-by, including the visually impaired, by offering a message in Braille.

So that the blind have real access, a label was screwed to the wall, at the bottom of the graffiti. The artist’s message and approach are translated, and the visually impaired can also touch different textures. “My work is based on the use of touch and sight. For 20 years, I have been creating art for the blind using Braille and Braille graffiti to challenge, question and tickle everyone’s curiosity, explains the street artist. I like to put the notion of isolation into perspective: who is isolated from whom when a message is not readable? »
