Eric Idle, the lowling of the British comedy troupe “Monty Python”, turns eighty.

It is perhaps the greatest triumph of the past over the present that it has been so wonderfully disorganized. When the members of the Monty Python troupe called on a BBC editor in the late 1960s, they were surprisingly poorly prepared when asked what they were actually offering. Which, according to Eric Idle, meant that the said editor “only” allowed them six episodes. Now anyone who witnessed old television knows that this lack of care often led to horrific results; however, there were also one or the other unplannable, style-defining stroke of genius, such as the 45 episodes of “Flying Circus”.
