Monheim am Rhein: Advent wreath burns down house – grandson saves grandma (91) | Regional

Monheim (NRW) – Advent, Advent, the whole house, it’s on fire! This is not how the fourth Sunday of Advent should end.

A devastating fire broke out in a single-family home in Monheim am Rhein. Fortunately, no one was injured, but there was a lot of property damage.

According to the investigation, the resident (91) of the house on Bleer Straße lit the candles of her Advent wreath around 9 a.m. Shortly thereafter, the wreath caught fire and the flames spread to the furniture.

Next door lives a grandson of the old lady, he noticed the burning smell. When he looked around, he saw the house on fire, saved his grandmother from the house and alerted the fire brigade.

However, the firefighters were no longer able to prevent the house from almost completely burning out and now being uninhabitable. The property damage is estimated at several hundred thousand euros. (with)
