At a game in Indonesia, Mohammed Rashid does not protest against the war in Ukraine. The Palestinian explains to GOAL and SPOX why.

Palestinian professional Mohammed Rashid has commented on his decision not to stand behind a ‘stop war’ banner ahead of his team Persib Bandung’s match in Indonesia’s top division. For him, there are double standards.

“I didn’t want to stop because there is no fairness and no justice,” Rashid told GOAL and SPOX. “When we wanted to do the same thing during all the wars that have happened in Palestine over the years, we were told that we can’t do it because it’s illegal, it’s against FIFA rules and because it’s football and politics mix.”

Nonetheless, he made it clear: “I don’t support the war in Ukraine, I don’t support Russia, I don’t support any of that stuff. I’m against all kinds of wars, I’m against all kinds of violence.”

Rashid earlier this month refused to join his team-mates in using a slogan to protest the war between Ukraine and Russia ahead of a game.

The 26-year-old Palestine international has been with Persib Bandung since 2021. In Liga 1 he has scored six goals in 24 games so far.
