Mobile Game: Nintendo completes Mario Kart Tour – and more?

On October 4, 2023, Nintendo plans to release new tracks, vehicles and pilots for Mario Kart Tour for the last time. After that, the mobile game for Android and iOS, which has been published since September 2019, will not be switched off, but the community will have to make do with the available content for all future seasons.

Nintendo did not give a reason in a message to players. The decision could have something to do with the preparations for the next console version: The content for Mario Kart Tour was partly based on content for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Here fans are waiting for the so-called sixth wave, and therefore also for new extras.

If there are no more routes and vehicles for Tour, that could also mean the end of DLCs on the Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is by far the most successful game for the hybrid console.

According to Nintendo, it sold around 55.46 million copies of the title by the end of June 2023. Animal Crossing New Horizon follows in second place with 42.8 million copies.

If there is actually no new content for Mario Kart on the Switch, that should be another sign that a hardware change is imminent. This means that a new Mario Kart for the Switch 2 – or whatever the console is called – should appear relatively soon.
