North Korea provokes with more cruise missiles

The US and South Korea are intensifying their cooperation and North Korea is reacting. Just a few days ago, the country fired ballistic missiles into the East Sea. Now it sends out more. Relations between North and South have thus reached a new low.

North Korea has shot down several cruise missiles into the sea, according to South Korean sources. They fell on Saturday in the Yellow Sea between China and the Korean peninsula, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, citing the South Korean general staff. Three days ago, North Korea fired two ballistic missiles into the East Sea on the opposite coast.

Relations between North and South Korea are currently at a low point. Pyongyang recently carried out repeated weapons tests. North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Un is aiming to expand weapons development, including tactical nuclear weapons. South Korea and the United States have intensified their defense cooperation and held joint military maneuvers in recent months.

US soldier ran into North Korea

Washington announced on Tuesday that a nuclear-armed submarine would be stationed in South Korea. The last time such a ship was sent to South Korea was in 1981. It had been expected that this move would provoke a reaction from North Korea. On Wednesday, the North Korean military launched two short-range ballistic missiles.

The fact that a US soldier recently ran across the border to North Korea is likely to have caused further tension. “A US national illegally crossed the military demarcation line into the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on a JSA orientation tour,” the UN command said on Twitter. “We believe he is currently in DPRK custody and are working with our KPA colleagues to investigate this incident.” KPA is the abbreviation for the People’s Army in North Korea, the communist-ruled Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
