Mirjam Zadoff’s volume of essays: “Violence and Memory” – Culture

In her book “Violence and Memory” Mirjam Zadoff examines how wars, injustice and oppression are remembered worldwide.

Anne Frank is the most famous teenager in the world. Maybe because there are so many of them. In an American play from the 1950s, her Jewish identity was largely eliminated. In France she was glorified as an artist and mystic. Japan saw them as victims of war, just like the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And because many Japanese read about menstruation for the first time in her diary, a tampon was even named after her.
