Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, convicted of murdering the black man George Floyd was stabbed by another inmate in a federal prison in the US state of Arizona. The 47-year-old Chauvin was transferred from a maximum security prison in Minnesota to the facility in Tucson in August 2022. He must serve 21 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd.
The reason for Floyd’s arrest on May 25, 2020 was the suspicion that he had paid with a counterfeit $20 bill. Chauvin and his colleagues arrested him, but they did so disproportionately. Even though Floyd clearly said he couldn’t breathe, Chauvin pushed Floyd so hard and for so long on the asphalt that he lost consciousness and died on the spot.
