Ministry of Economics wants to train cultural train – Bavaria

The cultural and creative industries have suffered from the corona pandemic like hardly any other industry. Now they are also being hit by the shock waves of ongoing digitization. Bavaria’s Ministry of Economics supported the “Culturia Camp”, a large-scale workshop where 50 young professionals from different areas of the creative industries and all Bavarian administrative districts met.

The aim was to develop project-ready solutions for general, current problems in Bavaria. But it was also important to network the industry itself more closely with one another – because “architects, designers, artists, filmmakers, musicians and software developers often work in silos,” according to the tender.

The winner of the ideas generated in the camp has now been announced: The “culture train” for Bavaria convinced the jury the most. The winning team developed the concept for a “culture train” that will stop at Bavarian train stations and bring cultural treasures, artists and creative people to rural areas. For example, wagons equipped with replicas of famous works from the State Painting Collection and traveling stars such as Jonas Kaufmann or Claudia Korek, who give concerts at the destination, are conceivable.

Where the train stops, local artists will be involved

The individual wagons of the train are covered with different sub-areas of the cultural and creative disciplines, inside and outside (e.g. with graffiti). Even when the train drives through the country, it should draw attention to itself. Every stop at a train station should be accompanied by a cultural festival all about trains. Another goal is to get more young people interested in creative professions outside of Bavaria’s metropolises. Because the future, including the fulfillment of the high-tech agenda that the state government is pursuing, will have to be led by creative minds.

If possible, the winning idea should be implemented as early as 2024. However, three other projects that were developed as part of the Culturia Camp 2023 are currently being checked for their feasibility. Two should counteract the loneliness of the people – both in the country and in the cities. A fourth is concerned with opening up creative scope for children from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The Culturia Camp was initiated by the “CommClubs Bayern”, the advocacy group for the advertising and communications industry.
