Minister Michaela Kaniber has to stay in the hospital for a few days – Bavaria

Bavaria’s Minister of Agriculture Michaela Kaniber (CSU) is expected to spend a few days in the hospital after an accident with her company car. A ministry spokesman said Tuesday. It is not yet clear how long she will have to stay there. The minister was hospitalized on Monday after the accident in the Traunstein district with “moderate” injuries, according to her department. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for observation. According to previous investigations, Kaniber’s service limousine collided with another car on the district road from Neukirchen in the direction of Siegsdorf. Its driver had previously avoided a car, which had therefore left the oncoming lane. A rescue helicopter flew the seriously injured 58-year-old to a hospital. She is in the intensive care unit and is in a very critical condition, said a spokesman for the Oberbayern Süd police headquarters. According to the police, an expert examined the scene of the accident, the cars involved were towed away and secured. It will probably take a few weeks for the accident report to be available.

Prime Minister Markus Söder and the state government were very “moved” that the cabinet colleague was involved in such a serious accident, said Head of State Florian Herrmann on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting. He sent well wishes to all who were injured. Such came on Twitter from the opposition, for example from the state chairmen of the Greens and the FDP, Thomas von Sarnowski and Martin Hagen. Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) also wished Kaniber and all those involved in the accident “a lot of strength”.
