Minimum Wage Increase: Why It’s Being Implemented Against Workers

The unions have not approved the minimum wage increase of 41 cents for the first time, but it will be implemented. What has happened there?

It was a joint press conference – but employers and unions didn’t really have anything in common on Monday. On the contrary: the minimum wage is to be raised from 12 euros to 12.41 euros in 2024 and to 12.82 euros a year later. But the workers don’t agree at all. For the first time since the Minimum Wage Commission came into being, they did not agree to the solution. The increase in the minimum wage is such an increase in the sense of the employer.

The trade unionists are angry: a lot has been done to calculate the result down, says Stefan Körzell, head of the German Trade Union Confederation and part of the commission. “Absolutely unsatisfactory” is the result.
