Military facility attacked in Iran

Explosions are reported from Iran. A military facility has been attacked in Isfahan, the government in Tehran has confirmed.

Explosions are reported from several places in Iran. The reports are still unconfirmed, except for one city. The target of an attack on Sunday night was a workshop complex of the Ministry of Defense north of the city of Isfahan, the minister said, according to the Irna news agency.

One of the drones was therefore destroyed by the air defenses, while two others exploded. The attack reportedly caused minor damage to the roof of a building. But nobody was injured.

The authorities did not provide any further information on the affected military installation. Iran has several nuclear research facilities in the region, including a uranium conversion facility. In April 2021, Tehran announced that production of uranium enriched to 60 percent had started at the Natans site in Isfahan province.

Northwest factory fire

The website Alarabiya News reports that it was said to have been an attack with a drone. The incident is believed to have happened around 11:30 p.m. local time. Explosions are also reported on Twitter from Hamedan and Karaj, without official confirmation so far. Apparently the Iranian air force had been activated.

At the same time, a major fire broke out at an oil processing plant in the northwest of the country. Dozens of firefighters fought the fire during the night not far from the provincial capital Tabris, which, according to media reports, broke out for reasons that have not yet been clarified. At least one worker was injured. The fire was so devastating that a fire engine was also a victim of the flames. Videos by the Fars agency showed a sea of flames.

In recent years, Tehran has accused Israel of several covert actions on Iranian soil, including the killing of scientist Mohsen Fakhrisadeh. The nuclear physicist was killed in an attack on his car near Tehran in November 2020. Fakhrisadeh was under US sanctions for his role in Iran’s nuclear program when he was killed. Israel has never commented on the killing.
