Pop star Miley Cyrus struggled with a spicy clothes mishap on her New Year’s Eve appearance – but managed it confidently and with wit.
That was a little too revealing even for Miley Cyrus. At a New Year’s Eve party broadcast live on television, the pop star caused a stir with a mishap – but ultimately saved the performance with skill and humor.
Around midnight, Cyrus was performing her hit “Party in the USA” on the fireworks stage in Miami when her glitter top tore off. A video recording shows how the singer holds her already tight top over her chest with one hand to prevent it from falling.
The star reacted confidently to the faux pas: Undeterred, the 29-year-old sang on while she turned and pranced and disappeared behind the stage to put on something. Shortly afterwards she reappeared with a bright red blazer over her bare torso and brought the song to an end.
Never wore so much clothes
She even had time to joke between the lines of text. “Now everyone is REALLY looking at me,” she repeated a corresponding line of the song. But she has never wore so much clothes on a stage.
The performance took place as part of “Miley’s New Year ‘Eve Party” and was broadcast live on the US broadcaster NBC. Co-hosted comedian and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. Other stars such as Gren-Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile were also there.
In the end, Miley Cyrus’ closing remarks fitted the audience with both the clothes mishap and the general message of the event. The show was about being flexible and making the best of even the worst of circumstances, Cyrus said. “Let’s take that into the New Year. We’ve all learned to expect the unexpected.”
