The black and silver cars and vans with the large “Miles” logo are located in eleven cities in Germany. The Berlin company is one of the largest car sharing providers in Germany, with more than 16,000 vehicles and around two million registered users in Europe. “We want to give people the same personal freedom that a private car represents,” is the motto of co-founder Alexander Eitner. But now the company is being investigated. The accusation: Miles is said to have possibly defrauded the state of Berlin of parking fees amounting to 25 to 30 million euros. The background to the investigation is the company’s system for determining parking fees.
