French international goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who has just been crowned French champion with Lille, has signed a five-year contract with AC Milan, the Italian club announced on Thursday. The third goalkeeper of the France team, 25, will have the difficult task of succeeding in the cage of the Rossoneri, second in Serie A during the last season, to the child of the club Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose departure has been formalized Wednesday.

“The goalkeeper has signed a contract until June 30, 2026 and he will wear the N.16 shirt,” AC Milan said in a statement. Lille confirmed “the total agreement reached with AC Milan for the transfer of Mike Maignan. The French international goalkeeper will commit definitively with the Rossoneri club as soon as the Italian transfer market officially opens, ”the French champion club indicated on its website.

Losc, a club hit hard by the crisis due to the pandemic and by the failure of Mediapro, the Ligue 1 broadcaster, should receive a transfer fee of around 15 million euros, according to the Italian press .

In Lille, this season, Maignan continued to gain stature. First on the field, where he had a full season, with 21 “clean sheets”. Then in the locker room, where he gradually imposed himself. The 25-year-old Guyanese, rather reserved, has become one of the executives of the workforce. He was present in Milan on Tuesday to undergo his medical examination and finalize the details of his contract, before joining the French team assembled to prepare for the Euro.
