Mikail Akar: Visiting the “Mini-Picasso” from Cologne

Mikail Akar has been painting since he was four years old. He is now ten and sells his paintings for more money than other people earn in a year. But life as a child prodigy also has its downsides. How Mikhail’s career changed his family.

On July 14, 2021, the Akar family would have lost almost 250,000 euros. The rain fell from the sky in thick drops, the Pulheimer Bach swelled and flowed into the cellars of the Cologne suburb. The fire brigade had to turn up more than 180 times. The basements of all the neighbors were full and had to be pumped out, but not theirs. There was water in Kerem Akar’s basement, but it was only a few centimetres, a miracle.

Had there been more, it would have destroyed the artwork of Akar’s son Mikail. They have already been sold to collectors all over the world, to Morocco, Australia and the USA. They were wrapped in bubble wrap for transport and stood on Euro pallets on the floor. High enough not to get wet.
