Boats capsize in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California. Apparently, migrants from Mexico were on board. Bodies are found in the water.

At least eight people have died in a boat accident off the southern coast of California. This was announced by emergency services in San Diego near the border with Mexico on Sunday. It is another tragic case of people smuggling across the border.

Emergency services received an emergency call from a Spanish-speaking woman on Sunday night, after which a boat with 15 people on board capsized. When they arrived at the scene of the accident, rescue workers found two boats that had capsized and pulled eight dead out of the water. According to previous knowledge, a total of 23 people were on board the two boats. The exact background to the incident is still unclear.

San Diego is on the American side right on the US-Mexico border. The United States has long faced large numbers of migrants attempting to enter the United States from Central America through illegal routes.
